Important Information for List Owners

The UC LMRI Email Lists have historically been hosted and provided as a free service by UC LMRI in order to provide the means for individuals to communicate and share information. These services have been supported, in part, through the Chicano/Latino Electronic Networking (CLEN) Project with support from the UC Committee on Latino Research (UCCLR).

As of June 30, 2008 UC LMRI will no longer be hosting the electronic mailing lists. The file will be eliminated from our system and will no longer be accessible. We are giving you advance notice of this change so that you can transition your list to another hosting service. Recommended email hosting services include Google Groups and Yahoo Groups. Both of these services are free and offer a number of user benefits.

Following are step-by-step instructions for transferring your email lists and retaining the archived list messages:
If you choose to use Google Groups, set up an account. If you need additional assistance with this step, please visit the Google Groups Help Center If you choose to use Yahoo, set up an account. If you need additional assistance with this step, please visit the Yahoo Groups Help Center.

Once you've set up an account, you can notify your current members of the change using your LMRI-hosted email list (make sure to include the name and email address of your new group). If you prefer to move your subscribers manually, you can access your current subscriber list by visiting your email list’s webpage.

Copy the list of members to your new email list by following these instructions (for Google Groups) or these instructions (for Yahoo).

To preserve your list archives:
Access your current list’s archive. Right-click on each (gzipped) file listed in the right-hand column, select "Save as" and save each one to your hard drive. Upload these files to your new Google or Yahoo Group.

Electronic Mail Policies

The University of California's Electronic Mail Policy applies to (1) all electronic mail services provided by the University, (2) all users and uses of such services, and (3) all University records in the form of electronic mail, whether in the possession of University employees or other users of electronic mail services provided by the University.

Important Reminder: UC LMRI does NOT guarantee the privacy of any message posted to any email discussion lists, including messages sent to lists set up as "private." List messages may be visible to the general public via search engines, etc.
