About The Steering Committee
UC LMRI is governed by a Director and a Faculty Steering Committee appointed by the Office of the President. Members of the Faculty Steering Committee represent each of the UC campuses and serve renewable three-year terms. In addition to the campus representatives, the Steering Committee includes a representative from the UC Office of the President. Robert Ochsner Faculty Steering Committee Member
Representing: UC Merced 2007-2010 ![]() Robert Ochsner received his doctorate in Applied Linguistics from the University of California Los Angeles in 1980; he currently serves as Director of two programs at the University of California, Merced: the Writing Program and the Center for Research on Teaching Excellence. As a researcher, Ochsner has conducted quantitative and qualitative studies of reading and writing performance, with related scholarship published in two books, Rhythm and Writing (1989) and Physical Eloquence and the Biology of Writing (1990), and numerous articles in refereed journals such as Language Learning, TESOL Quarterly, Style, the Association of Departments of English Bulletin, and Review of Educational Research. His current research examines social issues of teaching English as a politically dominant language, in particular noting students of diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds.
